Birthday countdown widget for iPhone
Add the birthday once with the ready-made Birthday event: it repeats every year by itself and reminds you a week before, the day before and that morning. Then put its widget on your Lock Screen or Home Screen. In Countdown Widget: Any Event every widget size is free.
Add a birthday countdown — free
Step by step
- Install Countdown Widget: Any Event and tap Add Event (or + once you already have events).
- Pick Birthday from the ready-made events. It is already set to repeat yearly, with the three reminders.
- Type the name and the date of the next birthday.
- Put it on your screen:
- Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, tap Add Widgets under the clock, choose Countdown and tap Done.
- Home Screen: touch and hold an empty area, tap Edit → Add Widget (on iOS 17, tap +), search for Countdown, pick a size and tap Add Widget.
More detail on both screens, and what to do if a widget looks stuck, is in how to put a countdown on your iPhone Lock Screen.
Keeping track of several birthdays
- No limit. Add every birthday you want to remember; each one repeats on its own.
- The next few in one widget. The list widget shows the closest countdowns together, so you see whose birthday is coming up first.
- One big number. The single-countdown widget on the Lock Screen keeps your own birthday, or a big one like a 30th, in view.
When the day comes
A week out, the day before and on the morning itself, the app opens on the number, full screen, with a card worth sharing. Tap an event and it turns over to a page of its own, where you can write a few lines and add photos.
Planning a surprise with someone? One of you can invite the other, and the countdown shows up on both iPhones; see the shared countdown page. Just want the number of days? Use the days until calculator.
