How to Put a Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or Zelle QR Code on an Invoice
To put a payment QR code on an invoice, get your payment link from the app you want to be paid through — your Venmo profile link, your Cash App $Cashtag link or your PayPal.Me link — turn it into a QR code, and place it next to the total with a line like “Scan to pay with Venmo” and the invoice number. In Smart Invoice & Estimate Maker (Invoice Maker) you add the link once and every invoice can carry the code. Zelle is the exception: it doesn't give you a link to paste, so use the code from your bank's app or write your Zelle email or phone number on the invoice.

Where to find your payment link or code
Each app keeps it in a different place. The link is more useful than the picture: a link can become a QR code anywhere, and a client reading the invoice on their phone can tap it.
- Venmo. Open the Me tab, tap the QR code button on your profile picture, then Venmo me — that is the code people scan to pay you. Your profile link is venmo.com/u/ followed by your username. Payments for goods and services, whether to a business profile or to a personal one, carry a seller fee; Venmo's fees page lists the current rate.
- Cash App. Your link is cash.app/$ followed by your $Cashtag, and you'll find your QR code by tapping your profile icon. Payments for work belong on a Cash App business account, which charges a fee on what you receive.
- PayPal. Create a PayPal.Me link (paypal.me/YourName) in your PayPal account. Clients paying for work should send it as Goods and Services: you pay a fee, and they get PayPal's buyer protection.
- Zelle. Zelle now lives only inside bank and credit union apps; its own app was retired in 2025. Open Zelle in your bank's app and look for QR code or My Code — the menu differs from bank to bank. There is no Zelle link to paste. A payment to an enrolled account can't be reversed, which spares you chargebacks but leaves a client no way to undo a mistake, so write the name you enrolled with Zelle — the one your client sees before confirming — next to your Zelle email or phone number.
Put the code on the invoice
Whatever you write invoices in, the steps are the same:
- Copy your payment link, or save the code image from the app.
- Turn the link into a QR code, or use the saved code as it is.
- Place it next to or just below the total, at least ¾ inch (2 cm) across, so a phone camera picks it up from a printed page.
- Write one line beside it — “Scan to pay with Venmo, @yourname” — with the amount and the invoice number.
- Add the link as text too, for clients who open the invoice on the phone they would pay with.
In Smart Invoice & Estimate Maker you add the link once. Go to Settings → Payment methods and add a payment link — a Venmo, Cash App or PayPal.Me link, a Stripe payment link or any HTTPS payment page. That link powers the QR code on your invoices, and every new invoice carries the code; estimates and quotes leave it off. In the invoice designer, Payment QR under Elements hides it on one invoice, and QR placement can move it to Center or Below total on templates that offer it.
When the client opens the invoice on their phone
Plenty of clients open an emailed invoice on the same phone they would pay with, and a phone camera can't scan its own screen. Those clients need a link to tap, so put it in the message you send with the PDF. When you share an invoice from Invoice Maker, that message already includes a “Pay online” line with your payment link. Writing the link in the invoice notes as well (Terms & notes) helps clients who only keep the PDF, though whether it can be tapped there depends on their PDF reader. The QR code is for printed invoices and for clients who read email on a computer.
Jobs paid on the spot are the opposite case. Invoice Maker's payment QR widget keeps your code on the Home Screen, drawn large enough to hold up to a client's camera without opening the app.
What the code fills in, and what it doesn't
A profile code opens your profile, not a finished payment: the client still types the amount. That is why the amount and the invoice number belong right beside the code. Ask clients to put the invoice number in the payment note — each of these apps lets the payer add one — so you can match every payment to its invoice later. Venmo business profiles can also make a code with the amount already set, which suits a fixed price better than an invoice that changes every time.
Mark it paid when the money arrives
When the money lands, record the payment on the invoice so it moves from unpaid to paid — or to partial, if the client paid some of it — and your outstanding balance stays right. A paid invoice can go back to the client as a receipt: the same document, marked paid, with the date it was settled.
